We are sad to see our friend-store and DUCF supporter from the very beginning, Naka, closing it’s doors. This Ferndale shop had become a favorite store for so many people who loved to shop indie & handmade, and we know that it will be greatly missed in the Detroit handmade community.
Stop by in it’s last few weeks to say goodbye to the friendliest shop dog, Ava, and to give Kelly a giant high-five. We are happy to hear she will still be part of the handmade scene with her line Mimi and Ferne, and we can’t wait to see what she’ll be making next!

Farewell, and Thank You!
After nearly 9 years of being in business, I’ve decided that it’s time for Naka to close its doors. It’s been a difficult decision to say the least, but one that is being made with a heart full of gratitude and an eye toward exciting future endeavors.
Ferndale and the surrounding community have been very good to Naka, and I am so thankful for all of your support and patronage throughout the years. It’s been truly wonderful to be your “go-to” place for gifts to commemorate the special times in your lives. Helping you choose gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, new babies, new loves, old loves, friends who were moving away, and so much more has been such an honor and a privilege, and I thank you for your ongoing and enthusiastic support. There is so much about having Naka that I will miss, but working with talented artists and seeing the customers who have become my friends on a daily basis tops the list.
I couldn’t have asked for a better city to open my first business, more talented artists to fill it up with their work, or more wonderful customers to cross my path on a regular basis.
I still plan to be a part of the community I love so much, and to pursue future arts-related endeavors, so please stay on the Naka mailing list if you want to be kept up to date.
