In addition to all the fun Handmade Detroit has going on at Green Street Fair this weekend, we are also lending support to two other events: Penguicon and Summit of Awesome. Details about each is after the “more” tag.
Penguincon 7.0 is a science fiction and open source software conference in Romulus. They say it better though:
“More than 1,000 geeks who gather annually in southeast Michigan to celebrate
o science fiction and fantasy
o free and open source software
o and other geek interest”
These kids are all DIY, just check out the list of programs on everything from Composting to Costume Making — in fact, our support comes under the costume track. “Savvy with Singers” will help you refashion old clothing into something new and wonderful.
The Summit of Awesome is also happening this weekend in Washington, D.C.
“The Summit of Awesome is 3-days filled with business seminars for artists and crafters, hands-on workshops, the D.C. premiere of the Indie Craft Documentary, Handmade Nation, and a Saturday night party.”
They’ve got some really great sessions planned, with some of indie craft’s best and brightest. If you’re a Michigan crafter attending, and would like to write about your experiences at SofA for Handmade Detroit, please get in touch.
Good luck to both events!
