Project: Crazy Flag Pillow for July 4th

It’s almost time for my favorite holiday of the year, the Fourth of July! Ok, my birthday is two days after, but still- great holiday!

I always make a small gift for my family members every holiday, no matter how big or small. I was looking for something different this July 4th and was motivated by my recent teaching adventure with Stephanie at the Detroit Public Library (photos to come!). I decided to make a quick, crazy flag pillow for my aunt and uncle since they love anything with the American flag on it.

Not a ton of detailed steps on this one; I actually winged it. Determine the size you’d like your pillow to be and go from there, essentially. I cut out a square of vintage fabric for the star field, cut long-ish strips for the stripes and added lots of ric rac! I put my stripes and ric rac on angles for fun. I also added some Fray Check to the ends of the ric rac to keep it from, well, fraying!

I like the results. What are you guys making for the Fourth?
