Save the Date! Detroit Urban Craft Fair 2010 will be December 4th and 5th at the Fillmore Detroit!

Make Nice Things in Real Detroit

Pick up a copy of Real Detroit today for a story on HD’s art show “Make Nice Things About Detroit” @ the Majestic.

Then check out another story which mentions Carey’s Defying the Law Bike Club, our friend Vicki’s Slow Food adventures and the brand new Detroit craft group Loop. Loop is social and fun crafting group started after we decided to give up our Detroit Craft Mafia name. The group is led by our DUCF vendor mama Amy Cronkite and while it’s just starting to form, we’ll have all the details on it in the coming weeks.

Is “Loop” going to be less commercially-oriented? I make things for pleasure, not sale, and the mercantile focus of the Craft Mafias have kept me away.

Loop’s focus is to be more of a social crafting club than anything else. Of course we all like to sell our wares, but we want to have fun too! Our goal is to get other crafty people in the area to come together to, well, craft!

Keep checking here and on our myspace page (www.myspace.com/loopdetroit) for more details.

But… my point was that we *don’t* “all” like to sell our wares. Ya know? Socializing, yes. Skill-building, yes. Selling? Not really, not me. Thanks, I’ll keep an eye on the group.

Making a craft that someone wants to pay you money for is a compliment!!!!
I just sold a crochetted hat with the Wu-tang symbol on it and a scarf that says “Protect Ya Neck” (one of their songs) for $100. And you better bet your bottom dollar I enjoyed every minute of custom making it to exactly my friends specifications and taste!
